The polluting trucks may soon face a fine of Rs 5,000 for entering Delhi. The Delhi government has directed its Environment department to bring the issue to the notice of the National Green Tribunal.
“Delhi Traffic Police officers argued that the polluting trucks can be fined Rs 5,000 only after the Delhi government issues a notification of the effect. We have directed the Environment department to appraise the matter to the National Green Tribunal for taking a final view in the matter,” said
Satyendar Jain, coordinating minister for issues related to air pollution.
Jain had chaired an interdepartmental meeting on air pollution in Delhi in which MCDs, NDMC, DDA participated besides the concerned departments of the Delhi government.
“The DDA representative informed that the field officers were sensitised on leaf and biomass burning but failed to produce any data. We will also raise this issue with the NGT,” he added.
