With an eye on the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, the Delhi government is considering regularising all colonies which have come up on the extended Lal-Dora Land (the limit till which a settlement is authorised to extend), under urbanised and rural villages.
According to sources in the Delhi Urban Development department, ‘The Revenue Department and The Urban Development have prepared a proposal in this regard, that would be brought up for approval at the next Cabinet meeting, scheduled to be held on Saturday.’
In 2007, the Delhi government had invited an application for authorisation of all urban and rural villages from residents welfare associations. On the same pattern, application and check list for regularisation of unauthorised areas of urbanised and rural village will be demanded after in principle decision at the Cabinet meeting.
According to sources at the Delhi Revenue Department, ‘The national capital has almost 150 urbanised villages and nearly 200 rural villages. These colonies exist in areas of north, south, west, NDMC and Delhi Cantonment Board areas. Regularisation of the extended Lal-Dora villages will help residents get their properties registered and carry out construction works after approval of building plans.
This is a major initiative to have come up on extended Lal Dora Land. The decision to regularise all urbanised and rural villages would be benefit 15 lakh residents .
It is noteworthy that Delhi government had issued notification of authorisation of 895 unauthorized colonies in 8 September, 2012.
