The Bharatriya Janata Party (BJP) will use the Mathura violence to target both the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress in the upcoming Assembly elections. The saffron party leaders are not going to limit themselves by pointing out the proximity of cult leader Ram Vriksh Yadav with the incumbent Samajwadi Party, they are also questioning the role of local Congress MLA Pradeep Mathur.
BJP National Secretary Srikant Sharma on Thursday blamed the Congress over its alleged links to the clashes. He alleged that Mathur helped the squatters make illegal Aadhaar and ration cards. He said the violence was a ‘collective’ effort by the Congress-SP to terrorise locals. Hitting out at the Congress, Sharma said “Why haven’t Rahul Gandhi or Akhilesh Yadav visited Jawahar Bagh yet?”
The opposition claim that squatters cannot build a self-sustained unit on a 280 acre government park without local support. He termed Akhilesh Yadav’s clarification as baseless. “When the local intelligence was always in touch with the CM, how can he put them at fault?” Sharma asserted.
Local activists also blamed the government for the death of two policemen. They think the force was sent deliberately without any preparation. Akhilesh Yadav’s efforts to shift the focus to ‘development’ in UP has received a severe jolt amid allegations of his inept handling of the situation.
The opposition parties are targeting the SP government in the state over the deteriorating law and order.
