Politics behind ban on Togadia entry in Bengal: VHP

VHP on Friday termed as “laughable” the West Bengal government’s ban on the entry of Pravin Togadia into the state and alleged “political rather than administrative reasons” behind it.

Speaking to reporters here, VHP Secretary General Champat Rai said on April 5, Togadia was to attend a Hindu Sammelan in Raiganj in West Bengal but he has been prohibited. “I consider it very laughable,” he said, adding “We feel that people are taking decisions on the basis of political rather than administrative reasons. They must have done some calculations.” Rai said it was an administrative failure on the part of the West Bengal government to impose Sec 144 CrPC in all districts just to prevent one person from attending a meeting.

He said the VHP will hold its meeting in Raiganj and Togadia may not go there but may address the gathering through a mobile phone.

The West Bengal government had earlier banned the entry of Togadia into the state fearing communal tension and disruption in public tranquility. A local court had on Thursday put an interim stay on promulgation of CrPC Section 144 for the public meeting in North Dinajpur district.
