Politicos with fake degrees dangerous for democracy, says Sharad Yadav

Hitting out at politicians accused of making made false claims about their educational qualifications, Janata Dal (United) chief Sharad Yadav on Wednesday dubbed such public figures as “dangerous and fatal” for democracy.

"The standard of politics is reducing day by day. Many, who have procured fake degrees and showing off their command on Hindi and English languages, have entered politics. This will prove dangerous and fatal for our democracy," said Yadav.

After Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Jitender Singh Tomar was arrested on fake degree charges, names of some more leaders, who had made false claims about their educational qualifications, surfaced. A court has taken cognisance of a petition, accusing Union Minister Smriti Irani of misrepresenting her academic credentials.

Yadav wondered what message the young generation will take from these "so-called politicians, who start their career with false and lying" claims.

"Although our Constitution does not provide any specific qualification for a politician, education is always useful in life. But it does not mean that the so-called politicians obtain fake degrees to show off, which is dangerous for our democracy,” he said.
