Policemen attacked in UP; DySP among 9 injured

At least nine policemen, including two Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) and a sub-inspector (SI) were injured in attacks by mobs in Etah and Hapur on Tuesday night.
Tension prevailed in both Etah and Hapur after the incident, even when additional police forces were rushed there to control the situation.
A police report from Etah said that seven policemen were injured including a DySP and a SI when they went to arrest a named accused in connection with cow slaughter at Barghen village under Raja Ka Rampur police station area.
A police constable and SI K P Singh sustained bullet injured fired by the people, while a youth Nazim (25) also received critical injury in the police firing. SSP Ajay Mohan Sharma along with other officials were camping on the spot.
In another incident in Hapur on Tuesday night, armed people of the liquor mafia attacked excise and police teams at Atrauli village, when they had gone there to inspect the manufacturing of illegal liquor.
Police sources here on Wednesday said that DySP Amit Nagar along with a police constable was injured in the attack and they were admitted to a hospital in New Delhi.
The criminals also torched two vehicles of the raiding team and assaulted the excise and police team members.

The BJP has condemned the incidents of attack on the police and said Akhilesh Yadav government has failed to provide security to the people. ‘The attack of the police was a result of the government’s attitude in promoting and protecting the mafias in the state,’ said party state president L K Bajpai.
