Police to give self defence training to one lakh Delhi girls

One lakh girls in Delhi will be given <g data-gr-id="27">self defence</g> training by the police and more than 66,000 of them have already been trained.

Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi conveyed this to the 9th meeting of the Special Task Force set up to look into issues related to safety and security of women here on Thursday.

The Task Force, headed by Union Home Secretary, has been informed by Bassi that the charge-sheets are now being registered in the shortest possible time and the quality of investigation is being improved.

“Delhi Police have planned to train about one lakh girls in self-defence training and about 66,190 girls have been trained in this field so far during <g data-gr-id="34">current</g> calendar year,” a Home Ministry statement said. Self-defence is being included in the syllabus of schools by the concerned authorities.

The Home Secretary asked the officers to focus on the issues of GPS and GPRS based tracking system and CCTVs in DTC buses. 

Street light and last mile connectivity to the houses from metro stations through suitable <g data-gr-id="33">mode</g> such as e-rickshaws, autos, shuttle service or any other cheap transport should be encouraged, he said.

Goyal asked the officers to implement all developmental works required for growth of Delhi as a smart city. He also asked the NDMC and MCDs to improve the condition of roads, water and sewerage in their areas.

The meeting was attended by the Chairperson Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), Chief Secretary Delhi, Commissioner of Police Delhi, heads of different departments of the Delhi government and senior officers from the Ministry of Home Affairs and other concerned Ministries of Government of India.
