Police suspect Jahnvi was sold off to childless couple

‘It is pretty evident from the condition in which she was found. She was properly fed, well-dressed and she didn’t even complain about anything,’ said SBS Tyagi, Additional Commissioner of Police (New Delhi). He further said the case is being investigated from various angles ‘but there is a high possibility that she was sold off to a childless couple within 24 hours of her abduction.’

At around 8.30 pm on Sunday, when Jahnvi was found near the weekly market at Janakpuri D-block in west Delhi, her head was neatly shaved and a placard revealing her identity in details was hanged around her neck. The police also informed that whosoever had left her at the market, was keeping an eye on her when she was left stranded.

A local had spotted Jahvi and called the police, after which, she was immediately taken to the Mayapuri police station and her parents were called up.

The police also believe that the social media campaign to find Jahnvi may have forced the kidnappers to release her. ‘It seems the accused had succumbed to the pressure imposed by social media, electronic media and print media. But the placard hanged around her neck also indicates that they were concerned and wanted to make sure that the girl is safely taken to her parents,’ said Tyagi.

He further added there was no trace of any physical assault on her body.  ‘When we asked her about who shaved her head she replied that her parents had done it, which concretes our suspicion about the presence of a couple who was involved in the case’ Tyagi said. However, the police have not arrested anybody in the case for far.

Hours before Jahnvi was found, the Commissioner of Delhi Police had announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for any information about her. On 28 September, the three-year-old girl had gone for an outing at the India Gate with her family. She suddenly went missing while she was playing with her cousins.
