Police suspect insider’s link behind Utkarsh murder

A day after the body of a 13-year-old boy who was kidnapped on Tuesday afternoon was found, Delhi Police remained clueless about the culprits who were involved in the crime and murder.

The boy, identified as Utkarsh Verma, a class 8 student of Vivekanand Public School in Anand Vihar, was kidnapped on Tuesday afternoon while returning home. At around 2.15 pm, the private cab driver dropped Utkarsh at Satsang Marg, few steps away from his residence in lane Number 2, Rajgarh Colony in east Delhi. But he failed to reach home and in the evening, the victim’s mother got a ransom call of Rs 1 crore. The next day, his body was found in a drain in Rani Garden in east Delhi.

So far Delhi Police have questioned around 70 persons including family members, relatives, victim’s friends, school staff, cab driver and other persons. Speaking to Millennium Post, the investigating officer said: ‘We have conducted several raids in Delhi and other states but to no avail.’

According to another police official privy to investigation, personal enmity may be behind the kidnapping and murder. ‘In the prima facie, it appears that the motive of the accused person was not to take the ransom rather he wanted to murder the child and take revenge of some sort. That is why despite the family agreeing to pay the ransom amount of Rs 1 crore, the kidnappers killed the boy,’ the officer said.

There is a possibility that the accused was also known to the victim as he was kidnapped in broad day light from a narrow lane of Gandhi Nagar. If the accused was not known to him and he had forcibly tried to kidnap the boy, he must have raised an alarm. But the locals have not heard any alarm or have not observed any suspicious activity in the area, he added. Further investigation is underway.
