Police seize cocaine worth Rs 20 crore from Afghan

The arrest was made after police received a tip-off that Nabi has been living in Old Delhi for some time and was on a lookout for prospective buyers to sell a consignment of cocaine. According to a source, the syndicate to which Nabi belonged was being handled by a man named Gafoor, reportedly an Afghan national as well.

Police received information on 10 February that Nabi would be coming to near Vikas Kunj on Outer Ring road to provide a sample of cocaine to a prospective buyer who resides somewhere in the area of Mahavir Nagar. A police team laid a trap near Vikas Kunj and apprehended Nabi with 300 gms of cocaine, said the police.

During his interrogation, Nabi disclosed that he had come to deliver the recovered sample to a Nigerian named Tony, who lives in Mahavir Nagar, on the directions of his handler Gafoor. He further revealed that he had kept the remaining consignment of drugs being carried by him in his hotel room in Old Delhi area.

Following the disclosure, a raid was conducted in the hotel where the accused was staying and 3,700 gms of cocaine was recovered from his luggage.

Nabi has also disclosed that high quality drugs are being pushed into India by the cartel through the Uri and Punjab borders under the garb of movement of bulk quantities of semi precious stones. Efforts are being made to locate the other members of the syndicate and the vulnerable points of access of this high quality party drug into India. Further investigation in the case if on, said the police.
