Police officials attacked in Noida during check

A group of stone dust transporters attacked the officials of Uttar Pradesh forest department when they tried to stop them near the Mahamaya Flyover for checking on Monday night. The police have arrested three members of the group while the others managed to flee.

The incident occurred at around 10 pm when a team of forest department was conducting a regular checking of trucks carrying illegally mined sand and dust, which is on rise in Noida. According to the police, when the team stopped a truck laden with dust, five men in a Scorpio car suddenly stopped near them, got off and started abusing the officials.

Shashi Shekhar, section officer, GB Nagar forest department said, ‘We were doing routine checking of the trucks and stopped a truck that was carrying Badarpur dust. Suddenly, a Scorpio car stopped near us and five men got off. Before we could realise, the men started abusing and misbehaving with us. One of them even threatened and said that they had suffered a huge loss after paying hefty fine when we had caught them before.’

The officer said that when he dialed 100 to alert the police, one of the attackers snatched his phone and asked him to show him the government permit that gives him the authority to check vehicles. During the altercation, the driver of the dumper started the vehicle and tried to flee, but hit the divider as the PCR van reached the spot. The police managed to apprehend three men, but other men managed to flee from the spot.
