Taking an extensive step towards increasing patrolling in their area along with increasing their visibility quotient in light of anti-terrorist measures and incessant crimes against women, Delhi Police undertook “Operation Drishyam” where around 100 to 150 police officials of the Central district stepped out on the streets. Launched on Tuesday, this initiative of the Delhi Police takes inspiration from the Bollywood flick, ‘Drishyam’.
Under Operation Drishyam, around 100 to 150 police personnel were deployed under the supervision of the DCP and Addl DCP.
“As per the plan, the initiative was launched on Tuesday and flagged off from Dariya Ganj, Jama Masjid, Hauz Qazi and GB road. This move is especially launched keeping in mind that we have to instill confidence among the people by assuring our increased presence on the streets. The initiative will also cover Jama Masjid, Karol Bagh, Pahar Ganj and Patel Nagar,” said Parmaditya, DCP (Central).
According to the senior police official, apart from conducting a thorough survey of the areas which fall within their jurisdiction, the police force interacted with the common people on one on one basis. He said: “What makes this initiative different from other initiatives is the fact that many police personnel stepped out at the same time to carry out checks at hotels, shops and other public places.” The official added that more than 15 motorcycles, 3 gypsies and one ambassador were used in comparison to the regular patrolling which involves only a few patrolling vehicles. Although this initiative led to heavy traffic snarls on the roads in the Central district, the policemen assured that this initiative will act as a platform for people to come out with their problems altering the perception that cops are not approachable to the general public.
