Police gear up as Ramlila Maidan gets ready for D-day

Police have made a foolproof plan to ensure security at the venue of the event. Since Monday, when Kejriwal announced that his party will form the government, senior police officials are personally visiting the venue and the nearby areas to scan them from the security point of view.

To monitor the venue and to keep a check on suspicious activities at Ramlila Maidan, CCTV cameras are being installed on the premises. ‘Earlier, the CCTV cameras were installed outside Ramlila Maidan but the upcoming oath ceremony is being seen as a sensitive event. Therefore, concerned police officials have been directed to install around dozens of CCTV cameras to cover the inside view of the area,’ Goel said.

Sources told Millennium Post that the footages of these cameras will be monitored at DCP (central) office and also the footages could be seen at police headquarters at ITO. ‘On Wednesday, the installed cameras were checked and till Thursday evening, the new cameras will be installed as well. After the installation of the new cameras, on Friday early morning their angles focusing on the area they are capturing will be checked,’ the source added.

Delhi police is trying to provide the same kind of security arrangement as was provided recently during Narendra Modi’s rally in outer Delhi’s Rohini area.

Apart from installation of CCTV cameras, extra police force will be deployed in the area. Policemen from the nearby districts and police stations are being informed and will be posted in the area. Also, PCR vans will patrol the nearby areas and vehicles will not be allowed to park near Ramlila Maidan. On Friday, Delhi police’s Traffic Department will issue traffic advisory regarding the same.
