Police claim highway robbers arrested

The Delhi police claimed to have busted a gang of highway robbers with the arrest of five persons on Saturday.
The five accused — Amit Prem Singh (20), Aman Kumar Sharma (20), Sushil Kumar (22), Ajay Kumar (23), and Yogesh Kumar (20) — are residents of Sonepat in Haryana and were reportedly involved in robberies of vehicles in the Delhi and National Capital Region area.

The police claimed to have solved at least four robbery cases with the recent arrests.
The arrests happened after senior inspector Virendra Singh received a tip off that the leader of the gang, Amit, would come to meet his group at parking spot near Gurudwara Majnu Ka Tila in Timarpur to plan another such crime. A team of officers headed by inspector Satyabir Singh was constituted under the supervision of ACP Suresh Kaushik. A trap was laid at the parking and five robbers were nabbed.

According to the police, all the accused persons belong to lower middle class. Amit, who leads the group, is reportedly a ruthless criminal. A case of a Scorpio robbery was filed against him earlier. During the interrogation, Amit is alleged to have also accepted his role in a theft at a jewellery shop in Kerala in 2011.

'All efforts were made to solve this heinous crime. The criminals having similar modus operandi were
studied,' said Ravindra Yadav, additional commissioner of police.
