Police bust illicit liquor supplying gang in City

A gang of illicit liquor suppliers have been busted by Delhi police on Wednesday morning. Two people were arrested and 27 cartons containing nearly 1,300 quarter-bottles of country made liquor were recovered. A car used  for smuggling was also recovered. Recently, several complaints were received regarding a gang involved in supply of illicit liquors to various parts of Delhi and its nearby states. They supply liquor brands which are prohibited for sale in Delhi. According to the police, they received a tip-off from a source that on 13 March a car carrying illicit liquor would come to Okhla Industrial Area. A trap was laid at Govind Puri Metro station near Okhla Phase-III. At around 4:30 am on 13 March the identified car was signalled to stop. The occupants of the car stopped the car, but tried to escape on foot. They were apprehended after a brief chase. During interrogation it was found that the carwas used by a well-known software company in Noida to transport employees. However, the driver used the vehicle to ferry illicit liquor after duty hours. ‘We are investigating further,’ said a police official.
