Police bust child trafficking racket, 11 arrested

Delhi Police busted a gang of child traffickers and arrested 11 accused persons including 2 women who were involved in kidnapping and selling the children. Two children kidnapped by the accused from Swaroop Nagar area and Alipur area respectively were rescued safely and reunited with their parents. The accused have been identified as Vijay, Hemant, Rakesh, Kundan, Sonu, Rehan, Raju Paswan, Anita Jain and Poonam.

According to the police, on February 2, a one and a half year old boy was kidnapped right in front of his parents when one of the accused engaged them into talking about plots of land. While the parents were busy talking, another man came on a motorbike and the duo fled with the child. A case was then registered at the Swaroop Nagar police station. Once the police started investigation, they found that a seven-month-old boy was kidnapped in a similar manner in January from the Alipur area.

“With striking similarities between the two kidnappings, our teams zeroed down on the role of a gang who was behind the crime. Sketches of the accused were prepared and circulated. The bikes which were used by the accused were also traced,” said Vijay Singh, DCP (North-West).

After sustained efforts, the team found the whereabouts of the accused and raided it. Three accused, Vijay, Raju Paswan and Rehan were apprehended and admitted to committing the crime after an extensive interrogation. They revealed that the one and a half-year boy was kidnapped by Rakesh and Hemant who kept the child in Jahangirpuri with Anita and Sonu, police said. “During further interrogation, the accused revealed that they sold the seven-month-old boy to a person in Sahibabad in UP for Rs 2.10 lakh.

They also informed that a person named Gaurav, alias Doctor, approached them about the availability of children between 6-12 months for a childless couple.” said the official.
