After their continued attack on the government and prime minister for failing to act tough with Pakistan, Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday, expressed satisfaction over the statement made by prime minister Manmohan Singh.'I felt happy, even if it is late, the Prime Minister has understood the mood of the nation and what the opposition had talked about,' said leader of opposition, Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj.
The BJP leader was referring to the statement made by prime minister, in which he said that there cannot be business as usual with Pakistan, after the barbaric beheading of an Indian soldier. Swaraj however, questioned as to what took the prime minister six days to come out with this statement.
Earlier, BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley met National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon, in which he briefed both leaders of opposition. 'I can say that the meeting was successful,we were able to make the Prime Minister understand the mood of the nation,' said Swaraj.
The opposition party said it was able to make the government understand the mood of the nation seeking tough measures against Pakistan. The leader of opposition, Lok Sabha said that during their meeting with Menon, they had conveyed to him that protests and displeasure was fine, but the government should understand the anger of the nation and sought tough measures against the neighbouring country. Swaraj also said that they have assured their party's support to the government.
GOVT CAUTIONS AGAINST JINGOISM
Government on Tuesday cautioned against ‘jingoism’ after the BJP upped the ante on the issue of beheading of an Indian soldier by Pakistani Army along the Line of Control. ‘Professional Armies respect rules of engagement. Transgressions are surmounted through tactical responses and not driven by jingoism,’ Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari said on micro-blogging site Twitter. His comments came a day after BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said that if Pakistan does not return the head of martyred soldier Hemraj, India should get at least ten heads from the other side.
