PM to visit Rishikesh on Friday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Rishikesh on September 11 (Friday) to meet Swami Dayanand Giri, who is unwell for quite some time. The Dayananda Ashram, founded by Dayananda Saraswati in <g data-gr-id="15">1960s</g> on the banks of Ganga, is famous for the study of Vedanta and Sanskrit.
The office-bearers of the ashram confirmed <g data-gr-id="14">news</g> about the PM’s visit. An ashram employee said: “Swamiji (Giri) is not well for the past two months and is on dialysis.”
This will be Modi’s maiden visit to Devbhoomi ever since he took charge as the Prime Minister in May 2014.
Modi had visited Uttarakhand as Gujarat Chief Minister after flash floods ravaged the state in 2013 and had offered help to the victims in Kedarnath. However, the then Uttarakhand CM Vijay Bahuguna had denied his help. Thereafter, he addressed a huge public gathering in Dehradun on December 15, 2013 – a few months prior to the Lok Sabha elections.
