PM to meet Shiksha Mitra representatives today

Varanasi district magistrate <g data-gr-id="32">Rajmani</g> Yadav and SSP Jogendra Kumar in a joint press conference appealed to ‘Shiksha Mitras’ (contractual teachers) to maintain peace as their request to have an audience with the Prime Minister was adhered to.

A delegation of six persons from the group can meet the Prime Minister on Friday. A confirmation from the PMO regarding the meeting was received by the district administration on Thursday, the officials said.

Tight security arrangements have been made for Prime Minister’s  visit and we are prepared to foil incidents that can lead to law and order issues in the city, they said.

Apparently upset over the cancellation of regularisation of their service following a recent judgement by the Allahabad High Court, the ad hoc teachers had threatened to stage a protest in the city, if they were denied an appointment with PM Modi.

The district officials said that the Prime Minister will address the public at the DLW <g data-gr-id="31">grounds,</g> while the Multipurpose ground in Cantonment area will be restricted to a private audience.

Only those people will get entry to the Multipurpose ground, who have been issued passes as the ground is less spacious, Yadav said.

The Prime Minister will also distribute rickshaw, e-rickshaw, solar lamps and other items to selected beneficiaries at the Multipurpose ground on his one-day visit. This will be the third visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the ancient temple town after assuming office in May last year.

The much-awaited tour comes nearly nine months after his previous trip on December 25 last year.

SP cavils at Modi’s plan to distribute cycle-rickshaws
The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Thursday caviled at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to distribute cycle rickshaws during his visit to the city, saying such a move will promote the “inhuman practise” of pulling a rickshaw, which the ruling party has always objected to. “Socialist Ram Manohar Lohia was always against the <g data-gr-id="54">practise</g> of pulling a rickshaw, which is inhuman. Two days ago, our leader Azam Khan had said in Varanasi said the Prime Minister shouldn’t promote this,” SP leader Manoj Rai Dhoopchandi said. He added: “So, we appeal to the PM to immediately rollback his decision to distribute cycle-rickshaw. Also, he shouldn’t distribute e-rickshaws on loan as it would put more burden on poor rickshaw pullers. Instead, these could be given free.”
