Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark upon an eight-day official tour to France, Germany and Canada from April 9 to 16 with a vision to strengthen ties and bringing in investments to India, besides attending a joint inauguration of Hannover Messe, which is the world’s largest industrial fair scheduled from April 13 to 17 in Germany.
“My France, Germany and Canada visit is centered around supporting India’s economic agenda and creating jobs for our youth. Will discuss strengthening India-France economic co-operation and visit some high-tech industrial units outside Paris,” Modi’s tweet reads.
“In Germany, Chancellor Merkel and I will jointly inaugurate Hannover Messe where India is a partner country. Looking forward to enhancing ties with Canada and interacting with leaders, captains of industry and diaspora in Canada,” the tweet said.
Sources have said that the PM will hold talks with the French President Francois Hollande, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper during his visit, as a part of India’s “Link West” policy.
On April 9, he will reach France and will leave for Germany on April 12. In Germany, Modi will attend the “Hannover Messe 2015”, where he will pitch for “Make in India” initiative to turn the country into a manufacturing hub. It is expected that he will also visit Berlin apart from Hannover.
His trip to Canada will be from April 14 to 16, where he will meet delegates at Ottawa and later will address a huge Indian gathering at Toronto. Expecting a large gathering of people with Indian origin to be at Toronto, to hear Modi’s speech, full-proof security arrangements are being made.
It has been learnt that apart from the capitals of these countries, the PM will also visit other cities but the schedule is yet to be finalised.
Till March 2015, Modi has made twelve foreign trips. The first visit was to Bhutan (June 16-17, 2014). Recently, on March 13-14, he visited Sri Lanka and in May, he is expected to visit China. Also, he will be the first Indian PM to visit Turkey (this year) after a gap of 13 years.
