Plea in SC seeks stay on IPL matches, demands SIT probe

On Monday, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court urging it to stay the remaining matches in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament following the spot fixing expose by the Delhi Police.

It has sought to stay the remaining four matches, including the final, till the completion of probe. The league stage of IPL has already concluded, with four teams – Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad – making it to the last four.

Delhi Police has arrested three players of IPL franchise – Rajasthan Royals -- for their alleged involvement in spot fixing in certain matches of the IPL. It also arrested some bookies and the matter is currently being further probed by the police.

The PIL has also sought setting up of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe spot fixing and other alleged irregularities in the IPL. All the IPL franchises as well as Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) have been made a party in the PIL.
