Plea alleging waste dumping scam by DSIIDC filed

A PIL has been moved in the Delhi high court contending that Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation was indulging in corruption by claiming crores of rupees for dumping waste at designated landfill sites without carrying out any such exercise.

The plea seeks setting up of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the alleged scam worth crores of rupees committed by the DSIIDC and its contractor under the guise of dumping waste picked from North zone of the national capital.

The petition was listed before a Bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath, which has sought responses of the Delhi government, DSIIDC and North MCD on the allegations made in the PIL.

The plea filed by Harish Batra and SL Arora submitted that waste from North zone of Delhi can only be dumped at Jahangirpuri and Bhalaswa.

They have claimed that without any dumping being carried out “crores of rupees has been claimed as dumping charges while in fact there is no proof to that effect or that any authorisation has been given by North MCD for dumping”.

Apart from setting up of a SIT to probe the alleged scam, they have also sought that action be taken against all officials involved. The next hearing will be on August 9.
