Playing Summertime Jazz

That is exactly what the 4th Delhi International Jazz Festival had in store for the city's music lovers as they flocked to Nehru Park braving rain and wind to witness the jazz extravaganza.
The first day of the three-day long festival saw jazz lovers gathering together at the venue defying the rain-gods who failed to dampen their spirits. The highlight of the day was the performance by Ari Roland Jazz Quarte, an accomplished jazz quartet from the USA. Inspired by jazz music from 1930's to 1950's, this group played their interpretation of pieces by jazz legends such as Billie Holiday and Charlie Parker.
The ensemble had the crown singing to the famous song Summertime and also played a rendition of a jazz version of Lata mangeshkar's Ae mere dil-e-nadaan. Hungary's Smarton Trio and Delhi's Black Slade also played their own interesting pieces.
The second and the third day only saw the crowd pleasantly germination on the grounds with some spectacular pieces played by the Columbian band Tres Butacas, Poland's Obara Quartet , France's Mina Agossi Trio, Joe Alvarez / Trident Jazz Trio from Mumbai, Canada's PJ Perry, Korea's Modern Han and Spain's Ximo Tebar and IVAM Jazz Ensemble.
Executed in an excellent manner by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) with pleasant lightings and availability of barbecue and a dozen food carts, this year's annual Jazz Festival has only heightened our exceptions for the coming year's jazz festivities.
