Playing safe: Guidelines set on how to conduct sports activities

According to the additional director of education Satpal, Delhi, ‘It has been observed that the equipment used during practice sessions for various sports undertaken by students in schools, as well as at sports centres for participating in various tournaments raises the risk of accidents.’

To avoid such unwanted incident, DoE has issued guidelines to heads of all schools in city. DoE has said that dangerous equipment such as javelin, discuss, hammer, archery arrow, balls used in shot put among others should not be left unattended.

DoE goes on to say that any sports activity in any educational institution should be performed in the playground only in the presence of the coach or physical education teacher. Besides this, other such directives include proper protective measures to be taken during the usage of dangerous equipment as well as other games such as gymnastics, cricket, boxing, weightlifting, baseball etc.

‘The most important guideline, which every institution has to keep in mind is that while using these sports equipment, it must ensure that the playing arena for these games is not being used by any other student for any other purpose. Students should be familiarised with the consequences of injury, if any, due to improper use of the sports equipment,’ added Satpal.
