Playing it forward with a double

Delhi's theatre circuit is gearing up for some double extravaganza with two plays to be showcased on a single day. Titled, Snake and the Frog and Vidambana, is produced by Platform for Action in Creative Theatre (PACT).

Directed by Gouri Nilakantan, the play Snake and the Frog is originally written by Marium Karim Ahlawat and Vidambana is adapted from Kriti-Vikriti of I N Bordes.

'Snake and the Frog
is based on a popular Panchatantra fable and is performed by children of age group, 6-12. The script has both prose and poetry which narrates the story of how a snake is hoodwinked by a clever frog,' said Gouri.

'Its a witty and a humourous play which is actually a culmination of a workshop or these young students. Making them act was a challenge in itself she added.

The second play Vidambana, essentially deals with the inner conflict of the human relationships. It portrays an intense confrontation when a husband and a wife come in close proximity to their own individual career growth. Their dedicated relationship exposes the tumultuous inner emotions that they hold towards each other. It questions these strong notions of individuality between a husband and a wife.

'I have put forward a very strong feminine character in this play which is actually a narration through the lens of a writer. The writer acts as a alter ego. Its kind of a surrealistic play which works on flashback. Music is used as a tool to show the transition in time,' said Gouri.

'The one hour play is a dedicated effort of some really good amateur actors,' she added.

Her comments on the formula of two- piece play on a single day, 'I do that very often. This ensures that every segment of the audience gets entertained and is invloved. Both the productions took around 40 days of intense hardwork from conceptualising to execution,' she added.
