Shabhash Kudiye, a play dedicated to International Women’s Day was staged on March 31 at Russian Centre for Science and Culture. There’s an actor within all of us waiting to get unveiled – was the motto of the amateur theatre group Actor unveiled who presented their maiden production Shabhash Kudiye. The play was directed by theatre personality - Kanu priya and Mohd. Faheem in collaboration with Parichay Sahitya Parishad.
The play was an amalgamation of Urmilji’s three short stories Mummy, mujhe kshma kardo, Makdi
and Shabhash kudiye interspersed by contemporary dance performances by the same actors depicting the sad state of male- female relationships in the society today. The purpose of the group is to create a platform for non-actors i.e professionals from different fields coming together every Sunday for two hours and letting the creativity flow. The age group of Actor Unveiled theatre group ranges from 15-65 years which allows each one to learn from one another.
The story of the play talks about the life of the main protagonist Sheenu, a 14 year old girl from a middle class family. Although a talented and outspoken girl, her confidence and youthfulness becomes a reason for her family to become fearful and the society to become judgmental. The play depicts an incidence in which Sheenu is being tagged as loose character – a conspiracy hatched by locality’s guard, postman and pandit.
Even after physically abused by her parents, young Sheenu remains unfazed and is ready to not only get back to her tormentors but to continue her own life.
