Plan to trim social science syllabus: CBSE

In order to bring greater focus to the study of social science for students of class IX and X, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is planning to trim down the syllabus.
Vineet Joshi, chairman of CBSE, said, ‘CBSE is receiving a number of requests from schools to reduce the syllabus of Classes IX and X in all subjects and especially for the social sciences. In order to get response from all the schools associated with CBSE, the Board has decided to collect the feedback on current syllabus of Social Science.’

Joshi also added that ‘there are some schools looking to cut the syllabus to make it easy for the students. In this regard Board has initiated service of questionnaire (online) to take appropriate action accordingly.' Presently syllabus of social science, for both the classes XI and X, include 5-5 units.
