Pitampura Dilli Haat plans 'Sharbat Mela'

Now that sultry summer has settled itself comfortably,  Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) is busy planning on ways to give Delhiites a respite from the soaring mercury. DTTDC is organising a 'Sharbat Mela' at Pitampura Dilli Haat in north-west Delhi.

The three-day-long Mela will be held on 1, 2 and 3 June. A variety of traditional drinks such as thandai, sattu, kokam panna, lassi, jaljeera, chusaki, faluda kulfi, lemon, kevda, rose, sandal, mint as well as modern concoctions like mango shake and chilled fruit beer will be on sale at the exhibition.

An official from DTTDC said, 'Variety of thirst quenching sharbats will be available for visitors. People will also get to taste a variety of drinks popular in different parts of country.'

Around 15-20 stalls will be put up for the festival.

The special attraction will be the stall of Navdanya, which will offer juices made from organic sources such as drinks made out of Himalyan berries and sea buckthorn and rhododendron flowers. These are known for their medicinal values. Juices from organically grown mangoes, lemons, ginger, litchi and pudina will also be available.

During the festival, a variety of ice creams and flavoured milk will also be made available to the visitors at Dilli Haat.

DTTDC has also invited many leading brands of modern drinks such as Dabur's Real, Frooti, Roohafza to put up a stall for display-cum-sale of their items. Officials said that manufacturers and traders of natural health products are also invited to put up stalls during the festival.

Apart from enjoying the variety of drinks on offer, various folk dances and cultural programmes are also being planned to keep the crowd entertained.

Rajesh Juneja, Manager, Dilli Haat, said, 'As summer is a lean season for Dilli Haat, we plan this sharbat festival every year. There will be more than 50 varieties of drinks to enthrall the visitors coming to this festival. We would be collaborating with artistes from Punjab Heritage Tourism Promotion Board and Sahitya Kala Parishad for cultural events.'
