PIO radio personality dies in Singapore

<g data-gr-id="27">Bamah</g> Balakrishnan, a popular Indian-origin radio and TV personality, whose iconic voice ruled the airwaves and the hearts of listeners for decades, died here on Wednesday following a heart attack.
In a Facebook post, the MediaCorp-owned radio station described 59-year-old <g data-gr-id="24">Bamah</g> as “legendary”, having “ruled the airwaves and the hearts of many listeners”.
<g data-gr-id="22">Bamah</g>, died on Wednesday, said a statement by Oli 96.8FM, a radio station broadcasting in Indian languages.
She worked with MediaCorp’s Indian radio station for the past 39 years and was well known amongst the Indian community in Singapore.
She suffered a heart attack at home and died at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital here, The Straits Times reported.
“Bamah was a true professional with a passion for the Tamil language. An evergreen radio voice who will be thoroughly missed but one that will be remembered forever,” said Chitra Rajaram, MediaCorp’s head of Community Segment (Indian & Malay).
“<g data-gr-id="32">Bamah’s</g> iconic voice which reverberated over radio and television for decades will continue to live
on in our hearts forever,” the statement said.
The station expressed condolences to her family, also on behalf of the Vasantham TV channel, an Indian language channel.
