A local court in Pilibhit acquitted BJP MP and national secretary Varun Gandhi from all charges in the second hate speech case registered at Barkhera police station in the district in 2009.
This was the second and last case of hate speech in which the firbrand BJP leader was acquitted. On 27 February last, the court had acquitted Varun from the hate speech case of Dalchand Mohalla area.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Abdul Qayum on Tuesday exonerated Varun from the charges in the hate speech case which was registered at Barkhera area in the presence of the BJP MP.
The court on Tuesday rejected an application moved by one Mohammad Asad Hayat, general secretary of Awami Council for Democracy and Peace, Allahabad, who demanded that the court should go for forensic voice test of the BJP leader. He also said that the speech of the BJP leader has hurt the sentiment of the community and he should be punished.
However, the CJM court dismissed the petition saying it is not maintainable nor it is required at this juncture.
Now, Varun is freed of all charges of hate speech though cases of violence during his arrest in 2009 was still under trial.
Both the cases of hate speech against Varun Gandhi fell flat in the court when all the 24 witnesses turned hostile. Varun Gandhi had strongly denied the charges against him and termed the case as an attempt to malign his image during the Lok Sabha elections.
Talking to mediapersons here after the verdict, Varun said that he has full faith in the judiciary and
Tuesday’s judgement vindicated his views.
