He had just Rs 57 in his bank account but gave cheques to the tune of Rs 19 crore to 20 Rajasthan farmers after buying their land for a health care centre, allegedly posing as a retired doctor in AIIMS, but landed in police net.
A physiotherapist, 39-year-old R K Gupta’s alleged cheating, which also includes duping of foreigners on the pretext of medical tourism, came to light after his arrest following investigations into a complaint filed by his employee that he tried to sexually assault her, police said on Monday.
‘Gupta allegedly cheated many people of money on the pretext of facilitating best of treatments in hospitals like AIIMS. He was doing fraud in the name of medical tourism, victims of which were mainly foreign tourists suffering from chronic diseases like cancer,’ Additional Deputy Commissioner (South-East) Gaurav Sharma said.
A woman had approached police claiming that she was selected as an executive of Holistic Health Care Pvt. Ltd run by Gupta on 22 February and two days later, she had to go to Jaipur with her employer and other office staff.
‘Gupta tried to force himself on her to which she protested and came back alone to Delhi and lodged the complaint. During investigations it came to light that he was involved in other fraudulent activities,’ Sharma said.
He had allegedly lured some customers in the name of investing money for a Rs 2,200 crore project for purchasing land and constructing Mega Health Centre in Jaipur through Holistic Health Care Pvt. Ltd.
‘Gupta posed himself as a very senior retired doctor of AIIMS. But after registration of the case, he fled to UAE. However, later we found out that he was lodged in Dasna Jail along with 10 others. He was released from jail. We arrested him from Greater Noida,’ Sharma said.
