People’s alliance will help us defeat any political nexus, asserts Mamata

This comes at a time when  speculations on a likely alliance between CPI-M and Congress in the state ahead of the Assembly elections are rife.

While speaking at the Mati Utsav in Burdwan on Tuesday, she said: “Any political nexus will be futile. People in the state believe in an alliance of the masses. This alliance is the greatest power of the state government” Banerjee said.

Without naming any political party, she criticised their stand on different “Utsavs” organised by the state government. She raised a question saying: “Will there be festivals to celebrate recovery of skeletons?”

It may be mentioned, seven skeletons were found from a pit in a field near CPI-M MLA Sushanta Ghosh’s ancestral house at Benachapra in West Midnapore.

Chief Minister said “I like a party which works for the people round the year. I like a party that works for the development and never thinks about any kind of destruction. I dislike political party members and leaders who come out only ahead of elections and put up posters.”

She maintained that members of such political parties make tall promises before elections. “Why was work on development not executed in 34 years?” She raised the question reaffirming her faith in work, and the work that was yet to completed.

She further asked officials of all departments not to delay any work. “Earlier there used to be trouble between district magistrates and superintendents of police in the districts.

But now there is no such problem. There is a good coordination among all levels of officials in the administration,” she said.

Stating that those who try to divide people are “bad”, she also asked the people to be united. “Don’t listen to what they say,” she said.
