While admitting that there was wave in favour of BJP candidates in Uttarakhand, former state chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal on Saturday said, ‘Undoubtedly, Modi factor created a suitable environment for all BJP candidates in state, but it was finally people’s personal vote and support that played a decisive role in our victory.’
Adding further, Pokhriyal said, ‘Chief minister Harish Rawat was actually contesting battle in the name of his spouse Renuka, and he tried his best to win this fight by hook and crook. He used government machinery to influence voters and also violated model code of conduct on several occasions, but people were desperate to overthrow this corrupt government of Congress and be a part of change at national level.’
Pokhriyal proved his mantle by defeating Congress candidate Renuka Rawat by huge margins of 1,77,822 votes from Haridwar parliamentary seat.
