People talk development in Seelampur area

The trans-Yamuna Muslim dominated assembly constituency of Seelampur is known to be the stronghold of Congress leader Chaudhary Mateen Ahmed, who has won the seat four times and has been representing it since 1993.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Kaushal Mishra, who is a new face for the people of the constituency, against Ahmed.

The constituency is dominated by Muslims who constitute 61 per cent of the population, while Brahmins constitute 13 per cent of the people living in the area.

Majority Muslims support Ahmed along with a section of Hindus. Ahmed is know to have supported camps set for Kawariyas during the Kawad Yatra.
Facing an acute shortage of civic amenities including power supply, Seelampur is one of the least developed constituencies in the trans-Yamuna region.

Large-scale encroachments, traffic snarls, lack of parking space and faulty drainage system are major problems faced by the residents of the Seelampur constituency.

Several residents said that the chances of BJP’s win in Seelampur went down after the gave its ticket to Mishra instead of Sanjay Jain. Jain is the sitting councillor from Maujpur ward and had bagged 3,000 Muslim votes in the MCD Election during the last year.

‘Though people are facing a tough time due to inflation, I will vote for Mateen, who has done a lot of work for the area. The MLA hears grievances of the people patiently and makes sincere efforts to sort them out,’ said social worker M Rana.
