People in favour of odd-even return: Delhi govt

As the deadline for giving views on  the odd-even scheme ended on Monday, the government has received huge participation of the people in the decision making process.

According to sources, the response is highly in favour of the ‘odd-even’ scheme and a huge number of people want the scheme to be made permanent.

“The response is very encouraging and we will soon announce the next date to launch the odd-even scheme,” said a senior officer of the Delhi government.

As per the information, over 12 lakh people participated in the ‘public opinion’ process through various mediums.

“A total of 1,82,808 people gave missed calls on the mobile number launched by the transport department while 10 lakh automated calls were made on behalf of the Transport department.

People were also given options to answer the queries by pressing the desired buttons on their mobile phones,” he added.

In addition to that 28,303 people filled online forms to submit their response digitally and 9,000 sent emails.

Beside these technology-based methods, public meetings were also organised in various Assembly constituencies of the city to get the people’s opinions on the issue.

People want to bring back the odd-even scheme particularly because it had made driving hassle free and roads were largely free of congestion.

Some of the suggestions were very interesting like people having two cars, both even numbers, should be allowed to alter one car into odd and vice-versa.

“The people have also suggested including bikes in the list, while some others have expressed their reservations to put women drivers in the exemption list,” the official added.
