PDP setback in J&K, NC-Cong wins all seats

The opposition Poples Democratic Party (PDP) suffered serious setback as ruling National Conference — Congress combine has won all the four legislative council seats in Jammu and Kashmir.

The polling for the four seats was held on 3 December and counting was held on Thursday. The seats were reserved for panchayats.

Over 34,000 Panchayat representatives across the state cast their votes. Panchayat elections in the state were held on non-party basis. However majority of the Panchayat members on Thursday expressed their confidence in the ruling Congress-NC alliance.

The winners include Ali Mohammad Dar and Shahnaz Ganai (NC) and Ghulam Nabi Monga and Sham Lal.

PDP is being viewed here as a party based in rural Kashmir. In the last Assembly elections PDP dealt blow to the National Conference, once known as an overwhelming voice of the people of Kashmir, by winning 21 seats in the valley.
