The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) has asked property owners to pay conversion charges for change in use from residential to commercial on notified mixed land roads. The Corporation has also appealed to the property owners to pay the conversion and parking charges at the earliest. The Corporation has fixed the deadline for June 30 to pay up the conversion charges for the current fiscal year — any delay of which, will lead to a charge of eight per cent interest.
The Corporation has said that there are as many as 42,369 registered commercial properties in the area, out of which, 21,331 have paid annual conversion charges for 2013-14, collected in the year 2014-15. 46 property holders have paid the conversion charges just once. While 7,984 properties have already been issued with sealing notices, 1, 3008 are about to be given notices.
“The conversion charges are already over due. The Corporation will have to take actions, including the sealing of properties, if not cleared at the earliest. The properties doing commercial activities in the industrial areas are also liable to pay such charges,” said BB Tyagi, chairman, Standing Committee, East Delhi Municipal Corporation.
