Pay a hefty fine for not complying with dust pollution norms

Be ready to pay fines up to Rs 50,000 if you fail to comply with the Delhi government’s dust pollution guidelines while constructing your home. The government has also begun imposing fines on burning leaves and garbage at open places. 

Burning leaves and garbage has been one of the key causes of air pollution in the city. “The decisions were taken after a meeting chaired by the nodal minister for controlling air pollution in the national Capital,” PWD minister, Satyendar Jain said.

According to report of Delhi Pollution Control Committee, in last two weeks, as many as 14 construction sites of Delhi Metro and 48 major construction sites were found violating dust control measures issued by the city government. The Delhi Pollution Control Committee informed that the third phase inspections were again taken up in respect of 48 sites where the construction activity was found in progress in first and second phase of the drive.

While in the case of dust control, the government said that, EDMC has challaned 31 people and received Rs two lakh, SDMC challaned 621 which generated up to Rs 25 lakh and North MCD fined up to Rs 25 lakh from 15 people while DPPC fined 12 people and NDMC challaned 14 people.

“Burning of leaves and garbage are one of the key components of air pollution, hence, the government has asked MCDs, DDA, NDMC, DPCC etc to keep tight vigil on constructions going on in their respective areas and issue challans against defaulters,” Jain said.
