Close of heels of raining sops from the Sports and Petroleum ministries on Wednesday, when Election Commission (EC) was announcing the poll dates, the Ministry of External Affairs in an alleged attempt to woo nearly 833 million people, living in rural areas, had announced the Passport Seva through Common Services Centers (CSC) on Thursday.
The MEA, along with CSC e-Governance Services India Limited, promoted by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), is going to launch Passport related services through the vast network of over one lakh Common Services Centers (CSCs) across rural areas in India. The ministry claimed that the initiative would largely bridge the digital divide in the country but many leaders are questioning the intention of the MEA minister in the midst of Model Code of Conduct.
