Party workers, not leaders, will select LS candidates: RPN Singh

In a pep talk given to the party workers the Union minister, RPN Singh, said workers would be taken into confidence before finalising the list of candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.

‘It has been made clear that candidates for the next Lok Sabha elections would be selected by party workers, not leaders. The leadership has made it clear that party workers would be heard this time,’ Singh said here on Sunday.

Addressing a party meeting, Singh asked party workers to get ready for the battle of ballots. ‘The UPA government has acted tough against terrorists and arrested many of them, while BJP had taken a soft approach on them (during the NDA regime),’ Singh said.

The union minister, who is in charge of 12 districts, including Lucknow, said without strong organisation, the party will have to face severe constraints during the coming Lok Sabha  elections.

Later talking to reporters he said the Centre had given enough time to Asaram Bapu to surrender before police but when he exceeded all limits the police was forced to take action against him.

‘Law will take its own course. No one is above the law in the country howsoever mighty he be,’ the minister said.

When asked about the hike in fuel prices he said the rise was due to the international market and falling value of the Rupee against Dollar. ‘Oil companies are free to hike the prices as per the international crude rate. It is also seen that these companies have reduced prices when the crude price came down,’ he defended.

Appreciating Food Security Bill, recently passed in the Lok Sabha, Singh made it clear that it will also benefit the urban population of the country too. ‘There is a myth that the bill will only serve the rural populace but in reality it will benefit both the urban and rural poor,’ he added.
