Parking mafia call the shots at Feroz Shah Kotla

Authorities turn a blind eye as parking mafia around Feroz Shah Kotla enjoy free hand during match days. The parking attendants charge as much as Rs 100-150 while there is no parking authority given by the civic body or traffic police.

When Millennium Post went to Bahadur Shah Zafar (BSZ) Marg near Feroz Shah Kotla, it was found that the parking mafia operates freely without any authorised permit. The parking attendants take advantage of the situation since there is huge rush on match days and thousands of car owners wander around in search of parking space near the stadium.

Hari Shankar, a telecom professional who went to watch the match on 5 May said he paid Rs 100 as parking charges for his car. ‘I had to pay the amount they were asking me to pay since there was no space. This is not the first time for me. Last time also I paid Rs 100,’ he said.

Surprisingly, the attendants also issue fake parking receipts to the car owners.

When Millennium Post went to the parking lot at around 1 pm on Wednesday, an attendant said, ‘We will charge Rs 100 for parking a car. We give a slip which has Rs 50 printed on it but we take Rs 100. The rates increase as the time of the match approaches.’
