Now, the parents can monitor the working of all government schools in Delhi.

Directorate of Education (DoE) has directed all heads of the government schools to constitute a school management committee (SMC) consisting of 16 members, in which parents of children belonging to disadvantaged group and weaker sections will be part of this committee.

According to the directorate, among these 16 members, there will also be a social science, a maths, and a science teacher. Fifty per cent of the members will be women and vice-chairperson will be a parent.

Senior official from DoE said, ‘Parents will be selected through an election in the general body meeting of guardians.’

The official also informed that SMC will monitor the working of the school, including the school development plan and the utilisation of grants received from the government. SMC will also ensure that the teachers are regular and punctual. ‘SMC will hold regular meeting with parents and guardians and appraise them of the situation prevalent. SMC will also oversee the implementation of mid-day meal in schools,’ the official added.

The SMC will meet at least once in two months and minutes and the decisions of the meetings will be recorded and made available to the public.
