Paper palace

Providing a major platform to the paper industry in the National and International scenario, an international exhibition, Paperex 2015, on pulp and paper was recently organised in the national Capital.   

Arun Kumar Jha, chief executive officer, KVIC visited the exhibition which was held at Pragati Maidan. Jha welcomed all the participating handmade paper units from different parts of the country in the exhibition.

Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is a statutory body created by an Act of Parliament and is charged with function and planning promotion and implementation of the scheme for the development of Khadi and Village Industries. 

Fiber industries group is prominent among the village industries. These days environmental pollution is one of the major problems in the world. Each and every industry engaged in the production create pollution but the handmade paper industry is an eco-friendly industry which uses the recycled and waste materials including cotton and waste papers. The industry has an immense scope for further development, as the concept for natural products is growing worldwide. The products are exported to countries like USE, UK, Australia, France, Germany and Sweden. 

Around 350 handmade paper manufacturing units and more than 4500 paper conversion are established in various parts of the country. The industry is producing more than Rs 500 crore worth paper and paper products and is also providing employment to approximately 20000 people directly and to 2000 people indirectly. The handmade papers worth Rs 60 crore have been exported by manufacturers directly and another 40 crore has been exported indirectly through various agencies.

Under PMEGP scheme of KVIC, the young entrepreneurs are coming forward to establish handmade Paper and Paper Conversion units. The KVIC is imparting long term and short term training courses to the new entrepreneurs besides assisting them for setting up of their manufacturing units under PMEGP scheme.
