Panic post-noon: Fire breaks out twice at Hauz Khas restaurant

On Friday afternoon, there was panic at the posh Hauz Khas Village in south Delhi after two fire incidents took place in a lavish eating joint in the area. No causalities have been reported but most of the restaurants were forced to shut down as precautionary measures.

A call was made to the fire department at around 2.17 pm saying that a fire broke out at the terrace of restaurant Bootlegger in Hauz Khas area on Friday. ‘Immediately, two fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the fire was controlled within half an hour. The fire broke out in the old furniture lying at the terrace of the restaurant,’ an official in the department said.

No one was injured in the incident though all old chairs and tables, the water purifier and an air conditioner were gutted in the fire. ‘The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained. A few hours later, a cylinder blast took place at the same restaurant and again the fire tenders were rushed to the spot.
In the evening, Delhi police officials raided the eateries, fashion and art galleries in the area and asked owners to show permits for running these commercial houses. Sources said most outlets do not have the No Objection Certificate from the fire department and MCD. ‘There is a possibility that most of the outlets will remain closed for the next few days to avoid any strict action against them as they do not have either of the permissions,’ a source  said. ‘I have shifted all the apparels to my warehouse as fire broke out twice at the terrace of my building,’ Amrita Kartikey, owner of Dozakh, said.
