National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) on Monday alleged that members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) have threatened their candidates and forced them to stop campaigning.
According to a statement issued by NSUI, it said: ‘Vice-presidential candidate Mona Chaudhary and joint secretary candidate Abhishek Chaudhary were attacked after they entered Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma (ARSD) College. ABVP candidates felt threatened at the positive response the NSUI panel received from the students of the college and thus forced them to stop campaigning. When our panel and members refused to do so they were brutally attacked. Two of our members got seriously injured and Mona Chaudhary was manhandled. A complaint against the attackers will be lodged by NSUI.’
While denying any such charges, national secretary of ABVP Rohit Chahal said: ‘It’s NSUI’s internal battle. Their candidate Robin Chaudhary, who was not given ticket, had a fight with Abhishek Chaudhary. ABVP members were not present there. It’s just dirty politics by NSUI. We want this matter to be investigated and whoever is found guilty should be punished.’
With DUSU polls just round the corner, NSUI has also started its preparations in full swing.
E-newsletters were launched on Monday for campaigning and canvassing by using the social media platform. ‘NSUI has formed a 20 member social media team at the national level. This is purely a volunteer based network in which activists from all over India participate and try to create an impact on Facebook and Twitter,’ said Amrita Dhawan, NSUI media member.
