Delhi Police Crime Branch on Wednesday have arrested two persons in connection to a pan-India fake insurance scam. The accused persons have cheated many innocent people all over India on the pretext of providing huge dividends on existing Insurance policy and winning of a luxurious car.
The accused have been identified as Devansh Rastogi (21) and Prashant Verma (19). They have opened several bank accounts using fake identity documents for withdrawal of the cheated amount from different ATMs. According to the police, the accused persons used to obtain details of Insurance Policy customers including their contact numbers during their job in call centres of Insurance Companies. During the course of receiving calls of customers they would collect the requisite information and thereafter, they would start calling customers inducing them to deposit money in the form of refundable income tax in bank accounts opened on the basis of fake documents. “After the victim would deposit the money on their direction, they would further induce him that his dividend on Insurance Policy has been increased hence, he has to deposit additional income tax. Initially they would impersonate as officials of insurance company and later by voice changeover as Income Tax Officers to press victims to deposit the next installment. They also used to induce victims that they have an opportunity to win a luxury car if they deposit the income tax charges against the proposed dividend in time,” the police official said while describing their modus operandi. They used to contact residents of remote areas so that they are not able to approach the police in Delhi NCR and could operate without any legal action being taken against them.
