Army chief Raheel Sharif on Friday visited the region and ordered to clear the last pockets of resistance in Shawal to complete the operation in North Waziristan which was launched in June last year to flush out local and foreign militants from Pakistan’s northwestern tribal regions.
According to intelligence reports, forces are slowly moving in the thickly forested and mountainous Shawal from North Waziristan and South Waziristan. Once captured, it will destroy the last known sanctuary of militants in Pakistan.
