Pak violates ceasefire again, targets posts along Poonch, Samba sectors

The latest ceasefire violations – the tenth and eleventh in less than a week – has come a day after an Army jawan was killed when Pakistani troops opened fire at forward posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.

In the first ceasfire violation on Wednesday, the Pakistani Army resorted to firing of automatic and small arms, besides mortars in Krishnagati and Bhimbhergali sub-sectors of Poonch from 10.40 am, a defence spokesman said.

Indian troops guarding the border took positions and retaliated strongly with equal calibre weapons, triggering exchanges which are still going on intermittently, he said.

‘There has been no loss of life, and injury to anyone in the firing and shelling by Pakistan along LoC on this side,’ the spokesman said.

The Pakistani Rangers also resorted to firing of small arms on Mangu Chak and Khatav border outposts in Samba district at 6.30 am on Wednesday, a BSF spokesperson said.

The BSF troops retaliated to the firing in a calibrated manner, which resulted in exchange of fire till 1 pm on Wednesday, he said adding that there was no loss of life reported.
