Pak detainee escapes from Delhi

A Pakistani national has escaped from the Lampur detention centre in Narela in outer Delhi on Wednesday night, police said.

Hyder Ali, 22, was detained in Jammu and Kashmir [J&K] under Public Safety Act and was later shifted to Lampur detention centre in Delhi because there was no such facility in J&K, police said.

The Central Reserve Police Force’s 70 battalion officials approached Delhi police and lodged a complaint regarding the incident. V K Pandey, Deputy Commandant, of the battalion told police that they have deployment at Sewa Sadan in Lampur to provide security to the deportees and premises. ‘In this complex, citizens of various nations pending deportation are detained after expiry of their punishment as the formalities  for completion of requisite documents for deportation take time,’ Pandey told the police.

He in his complaint, Pandey said that on Wednesday at around 4 pm, the in-charge of security - Sub Inspector S K Sardar - informed him that that one of inmates did not have his lunch. Sardar was apparently intimated about this by Sub Inspector Attar Singh of Delhi police.

‘When Attar Singh counted the inmates of Sewa Sadan, he realised Hyder Ali, who was brought to Sewa Sadan on 15 June  was missing,’ said Pandey. Hyder Ali was brought to Delhi from J&K on the orders of Deputy Commissioner of Police of Special Branch.

The Reserve police and the Delhi police searched the premises thoroughly, but Hyder Ali could not be traced.

They then approached the police and lodged a complaint at Narela police station in outer Delhi under Section 14 Foreigner Act. He was to be deported and last night, he managed to escape from the centre, they claimed.

‘The investigations are on to ascertain how he escaped from the detention centre. We are also trying to trace him,’ said a senior police officer. According to the police officer, a probe is being conducted and if any personnel involvement is detected, the person/s would be suspended.
