Pak cricket writer completes 400 Tests

Veteran Pakistan cricket journalist Qamar Ahmed (76) became only the third man to cover 400 Test matches on Thursday on the opening day of the third Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Fondly known as Q to friends and cricketers around the world, Ahmed follows British journalist John Woodcock of The Times and former Australian captain-turned-writer and commentator Richie Benaud to the milestone. Ahmed covered cricket’s 1,000th Test, between Pakistan and New Zealand in 1984, as well as the 2,000th, between England and India at Lord’s in 2011. He has also clocked up 732 ODIs and eight World Cups. A former left-arm spinner, Ahmed also  has the distinction of dismissing all five of Pakistan’s legendary Mohammad brothers in first class cricket in 1950s and 60s. Ahmed’s Test ‘debut’ came at Lord’s when Pakistan drew with England in 1974.
